Connect Homematic IP
Create a separate, clearly named connection for each access point.
Before you start
The access point is set up in the Homematic IP app. The matching product and one available access-point slot are booked in octopancy. You have permission to manage smart-home connections.
Create a connection
- Open Smart home integrations → Add integration.
- Select Homematic IP.
- Enter a clear connection name.
- In the Homematic IP app, open More → Settings → Homematic IP Cloud access → Add client.
- Generate a six-character one-time key and enter it in octopancy. No SGTIN is required.
- Start the connection and wait for Homematic IP connected successfully with the animated check mark. Done closes the confirmation; Go to Locations opens device placement. The connection is now Active. Device import follows and may still be pending.
- Open your locations to place imported devices and assign them to controls.
View rooms and assign a site
Open your active Homematic IP connection. Your Homematic IP devices and rooms loads automatically. Use the Reload refresh icon to update the list.
A room represents a heating group in Homematic IP. Devices reported individually by Homematic IP appear separately under Devices. A thermostat is only listed individually when the connection reports it as a separate device. Eco mode and vacation mode are hidden here.
- Open the three-dot menu next to the room.
- Select Assign location.
- Choose an existing site or use Create location to add one.
- Confirm with Assign.
You need permission to manage sites. The assigned site appears below the room name; Open location takes you there. For assigned rooms, choose Change location. The current location is preselected; confirmation becomes available after selecting another location. It survives refreshing and renaming the Homematic IP room and does not change heating settings.
Assigned rooms also appear under Locations → your location → Devices, in Rooms from smart-home connections. You can change the location assignment from each room’s three-dot menu there. Open location takes you directly to this Devices tab.
If the list is empty, check the room assignment in the Homematic IP app. Previously loaded rooms remain visible if a reload fails.
Smoke detectors and unknown devices
A recognized smoke detector appears with its name and model, such as HmIP-SWSD. Use its three-dot menu to assign a location. Its room assignment in Homematic IP is preserved.
The detector shows its latest reported alarm state and a Reported timestamp. Smoke alarm at device and Relayed smoke alarm are different reports. Last reported without alarm refers to that report and does not confirm current reachability. No alarm state reported yet and Unknown alarm state do not mean an all-clear. New reports update the view automatically. Once assigned, the state also appears under Locations → your location → Devices.
Unmapped device types remain visible. This does not mean that all their features are supported. A device reporting no alarm does not clear a global alarm that may still be reported. This display does not yet send automatic alarm push notifications.
Test the connection
Under Smart home integrations, open your active Homematic IP connection and choose Test connection from the three-dot menu. You need permission to manage connections.
The test starts immediately and displays a status icon with a short explanation. Done closes the dialog. If the connection cannot be confirmed, choose Test again. If authorization is rejected, reauthorize the connection.
The test checks access to the Homematic IP cloud without controlling devices. It does not verify individual device availability or webhook delivery.
An Active connection also shows its last connection-test status: Not checked yet, Connected or Unreachable. The result is retained when you reopen the connection. This extra status is hidden until pairing is complete.
Pair again
Open the existing connection and select Reauthorize. Generate a new one-time key in the Homematic IP app and confirm it in octopancy.
The same connection is reused. Data, device placement and technical assignments are retained. Pairing an already paired connection again does not consume another slot.
Disconnect
Open the connection, choose Disconnect integration and confirm. The connection is already unusable in octopancy while disconnection is pending. Wait for the final status.
This removes octopancy's connection to Homematic IP. It does not reset or switch off your access point. Reducing the booked capacity is a separate commercial operation.
Troubleshooting
- Key rejected: Generate a new key rather than reusing the old one.
- No capacity: Check booked slots and existing connections.
- Setup expired: Start again from provider selection.
- Pairing or disconnection pending: The operation is not complete. Submitting a form is not confirmation of success.
The workflow is the same for holiday rentals and coworking. The names and subsequent device placement differ.
